The thing that should not let it be

OK - so there's no video but the audio is bloody awesome! You need to be a Metallica fan as well as a Beatles fan to really appreciate this and catch all the subtleties.

Although the song is a mash up/parody, you have to admit that these guys are really talented. Apart from managing to sound exactly like Metallica they are real musicians in their own right.

Mambo Kurt - Enter Sandman

I have no idea what it is about Mambo Kurt that makes him so cool!

Let's face it... he plays a crap instrument, he plays it badly, he dresses like a dweeeb, he's an ugly little shite but somehow it's frikken hilarious!

Slayer - Raining blood

"Reign in blood" was (and still is) the greatest thrash metal album of all time. Metallica's first 3 albums were great too, but they sold out. I don't care what anybody says... Load, ReLoad and everything up to an including St Anger just plain sucked!

I haven't been to partial to the latest couple of Slayer albums, but at least they stuck to their guns and didn't try to change their sound for mass commercial appeal!

Tankard - Empty tankard

Tankard is one of those bands that are always great to party to and this is probably thier biggest party song. Definitely thier best crowd participation song!

Anyway - the reason I am posting this here is because "Agro" from South Africa are releasing a cover version on their next album soon (we're shooting the video next Saturday :-) and I wanna be the first to announce it :-)

Gerre from Tankard will even be doing guest vocals! :-)

Gotthard Drum Solo

I just love this frikken' concept! The vocalist appears on a riser in the middle of the crowd to face of against the drummer in a killer drum solo!

Gotthard is one of those bands that are almost criminally unheard of. They are brilliant and deserve to be a lot bigger internationally than what hey are!

Pantera - Cemetery Gates

If memory serves me correctly, this is the track that turned me into a Pantera fan. I was listening to this on the way in to work this morning and it rocks as hard today as it did when it was released!

Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction

Say what you like about Dave Mustaine and his attitude, Megadeth have done some awesome tracks over the years (I was one of the first people to own "Killing is my business" waaaaay back when...)

Symphony... is a brilliant song. I just LOVE that main riff! Reminds me of rocking out at the old Marshall street Doors :-)

BTW - Dave Mustaine is going to be doing a radio show soon. He's promising to play the good old stuff like Merciful Fate, so lets wait and see.

Welcome to South Africaaaargh!!

I first saw these guys at a battle of the bands at Club Image in Jhb back in around '88 when they were still just another punk band. Over the next few years they changed their sound to more of a death metal vibe and actually got pretty good!

They released an album called "Bloed Rivier" which did fairly well on the international scene but they broke up before releasing a follow up.

Xentrix - Ghostbusters

Released way back in '89 - this quirky gimmick song is sadly one of the best known songs by the hugely under rated British band, Xentrix.

"For whose Advantage" and "Dilute to Taste" were really good albums, but "Kin" released in "92 was a really brilliant album that should have brought them huge international fame - but for some reason it was largely overlooked by the media. Things fizzled after that and they broke up (apart from a brief reformation with some new members) which is a real shame. They had the potential to be the British answer to Metallica.

One of the best band ever - period!

This is one of my favourite tracks off of "Poets And Madmen" and I really wish they would do another album! I saw them do this track at Wacken 2002 (with Jeff Waters of guitars :-) and I think that Damond Jiniya is a brilliant vocalist - he handled Zak and Jon's roles perfectly and it's almost criminal that he never got to do an album with the 'tage.

If they ever get around to doing a reunion, I'd love to hear Damond doing some originals of his own - I'm sure he would kick ass on a studio recording.
